The 2026 General Conference of the Global Methodist Church will be in Johannesburg, South Africa, Aug. 30-Sept 5, 2026, the denomination announced. Delegates elected from each of the annual conferences worldwide will attend to set policy and elect bishops for the church for the next six years.
The General Conference, with an equal number of clergy and lay delegates, is the highest ruling body for the Global Methodist Church. It can amend the Book of Doctrines and Disciplines, which is the book of law for the GMC. It also elects bishops, who are then assigned to annual conferences by a committee named by the General Conference.
With the 2026 conference the denomination will begin the practice of having General Conference eash six years. The first conference, in 2024, was a special convening conference with a limited agenda.
