Day 263 1 Chronicles Chapters 8 – 10

Regime change
1 Chronicles Chapters 8-10
Today’s account of generations is interrupted twice. Once it goes into some detail about the role of the gatekeepers of the tabernacle (and even mentions the musicians again!). The chapter ends by recounting the story of the death of King Saul.
If you were to use modern terminology, the gatekeepers of the tabernacle would be like the ushers at the worship service.
The account of Saul’s death is very similar to the one we read at the end of 1 Samuel, but the writer of 1 Chronicles is very clear that the death was because of his disobedience to God, and for the purpose of clearing the way for David to be king.

Thursday meditation

Proverbs 26:22-23
The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.
Like a coating of silver dross on earthenware
are fervent lips with an evil heart.

Prayer focus
Lord, let us be faithful and keep your word so that we might live.
