David: mighty warrior
1 Chronicles Chapters 11-14
The common theme in today’s readings is David’s success as a warrior, with lists of his commanders and even foreigners who join to fight with him.
Throughout it all, David remembers to give credit to God for his victories and to inquire of God what he should do.
The writer, too, attributes David’s victories to God: “So David’s fame spread throughout every land, and the Lord made all the nations fear him.”
-Rev. Mark Fleming
Friday meditation
Proverbs 26:24-26
Enemies disguise themselves with their lips, but in their hearts they harbor deceit. Though their speech is charming, do not believe them, for seven abominations fill their hearts. Their malice may be concealed by deception, but their wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.
Prayer focus
Lord, grant us trust in you when we face our fears, and humility in our victories.
