Wisdom and humility
Day 271, Friday, May 9
2 Chronicles Chapters 1 – 3
The account of the beginning of Solomon’s reign is very similar to what we have read before.
Once again, his reign begins by asking God to give him wisdom. “Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
The humility of the request leads God to grant Solomon not only the wisdom and knowledge he has prayed for, but also to grant him greater wealth than any king before him or any king to follow.

Friday meditation
Proverbs 27:9-10
Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice.
Do not forsake your friend or a friend of your family, and do not go to your relative’s house when disaster strikes you—better a neighbor nearby than a relative far away.
Prayer focus
Lord, grant us, too, wisdom to perform the tasks you have given to us.
