God’s dwelling place
Day 272, Saturday, May 10
2 Chronicles Chapters 4 – 6
If today’s reading sounds familiar, there’s good reason. Much of it is identical or nearly identical to what we have read already, so there’s not much to add.
It is important to remember that to the Hebrews, the temple was God’s dwelling place to a degree we do not ascribe to any particular location. This takes a literal turn when the end of Chapter 5 and the beginning of Chapter 6 talk about God’s presence being a cloud that is so thick inside the temple that the priests could not perform their service.
Solomon explains it as, “The Lord has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud; I have built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever.”

Saturday meditation
Proverbs 27:11-13
Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart; then I can answer anyone who treats me with contempt.
The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
Take the garment of one who puts up security for a stranger; hold it in pledge if it is done for an outsider.
Prayer focus
God, let us praise you and worship you wherever we find you: in places of worship, in nature and in the faces of the people whom you have created and whom you love.
