Trusting in God
Day 275, Tuesday, May 13
2 Chronicles 14:2 – Chapter 17
In the 2 Chronicles account of Asa’s life, he had a time at the end of his life when he failed in obedience to God, but for most of his life and reign was faithful. As a result, his reign was both peaceful and prosperous.
The tone is set early when Zerah the Cushite attacks Judah and Asa trusts in God to protect it, saying, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God, do not let mere mortals prevail against you.”
While we sometimes think of God’s preference for the weak over the strong, and the protection he provides to them, as a New Testament concept, it is already strongly present here in the Old Testament, and we’ll see it even more as we move into reading from the prophets.
Tuesday meditation
Proverbs 27:20-21
Death and Destruction are never satisfied, and neither are human eyes.
The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but people are tested by their praise.
Prayer focus
Help us, Lord, for when we rely on you, you do not let mere mortals prevail.
