Fair judgment
Day 276, Wednesday, May 14
2 Chronicles Chapter 18 – 21:3
Today we read of another of the good kings of Judah, Jehoshaphat, son of Asa. The stories here are similar to what we read of him in 1 Kings.
An interesting highlight in today’s reading is in Chapter 19 when Jehoshaphat appointed judges in the land, in each of the fortified cities.
His words of instruction to them are applicable not only to anyone who must have judicial responsibilities, but also any time we are put in a position of judging between one person and another.
“Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the Lord, who is with you, whenever you give a verdict. Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.”
Wednesday meditation
Proverbs 27:22
Though you grind a fool in a mortar, grinding them like grain with a pestle, you will not remove their folly from them.
Prayer focus
God, grant us both the knowledge and the wisdom to be fair and impartial judges of whatever situations come our way.
