Take it, this is my body.... This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.

Communion
Day 300, Saturday, June 7
Mark Chapter 14
Of all the times we see Jesus teaching and preaching, nothing approaches the impact and intimacy of his time with his disciples during the last supper, when he shares the meal with them that will become the model for Christian worship for all time: what we call Communion or the Lord’s Supper, or what our Catholic brothers and sisters call Mass.
One of the ironies of Communion is that we can see in retrospect what the disciples could not see at the time: Jesus’s offering of his body and blood would be played out literally within just a few hours of the Last Supper—we remember what he anticipated.
We talked earlier this week about surrender. This is what surrender looked like to Jesus. He was going to give up his life, turning his body over to evil people to be tortured and torn, his blood to be spilled.
What does surrender look like for us? Each time we share in Communion we’re reminded of the price Jesus paid.

Saturday meditation

Proverbs 30:1-4
The sayings of Agur son of Jakeh—an inspired utterance. This man’s utterance to Ithiel:
“I am weary, God, but I can prevail.
Surely I am only a brute, not a man; I do not have human understanding.
I have not learned wisdom, nor have I attained to the knowledge of the Holy One.
Who has gone up to heaven and come down?
Whose hands have gathered up the wind?
Who has wrapped up the waters in a cloak?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is his name, and what is the name of his son?
Surely you know!

Prayer focus
Lord, each time we share Communion may we be reminded of the priceless gift that Jesus gave us through the sacrifice of his body and blood.
