Judgment on Moab
Day 383, Friday, Aug. 29
Jeremiah Chapter 48
Today’s chapter is about the judgment of Moab, a land east of the dead sea. The Moabites were ethnically related to the Jews but did not share a common culture or religion.
The relationship between the Jews and Moabites was at times friendly and at other times hostile. Ruth was a Moabite.
The judgment against the Moabites was based on their worship of pagan gods. In verse 35 we read, “In Moab I will put an end to those who make offerings on the high places and burn incense to their gods.”
The text today is pretty standard judgment text ending with almost a footnote, “Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab in the days to come.”
