Remember mercy
Day 463, Monday, Nov. 17
Habakkuk (all)
Habakkuk is a short book written in the form of a conversation between the prophet and God.
Early in chapter 1 (verses 3 and 4) Habbakuk complains of the injustice, destruction and violence that prevails in the world: “Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and coflict abounds. Therefore the law is paralyzed and justice never prevails. The wicked hem in the righteous, so that justice is perverted.”
God responds that he is going to use the power of Babylon to bring vengeance on the unjust.
The book ends with Habakkuk’s prayer in praise of God in chapter 3: “Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy….The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.”
We should pray along with Habakkuk that God will repeat his mighty deeds in our day and remember mercy when the time for his wrath comes.

Monday meditation
Psalms 27:7-14
Hear my voice when I call, Lord; be merciful to me and answer me. My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me, do not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior. Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. Teach me your way, Lord; lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors. Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations.
I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.
