Speaking out
Day 487, Thursday, Dec. 11
Acts 4:1-22
The spread of Christianity doesn’t depend on any secret knowledge or elaborate strategy. Its method of expansion is summarized in verse 20, “As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
There is still no more powerful witness than the believer who simply shares how he or she has experienced God.
As Peter is speaking to the rulers and elders who would silence him, he makes one of the boldest and most urgent claims of the Christian message: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
In our diverse and pluralistic society we recognize that there are many paths by which people find Jesus Christ—but he remains the only path by which anyone can find salvation.

Thursday meditation

Psalms 40:1-5
I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.
Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods. Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.

Prayer focus
We pray, Jesus, for the world to find you and the salvation only you offer.
