Keep away from idle and disruptive people
Day 643, Saturday, May 16
2 Thessalonians 2:13 – Chapter 3
After reminding the church of God’s faithfulness to protect us from evil, Paul cautions them against those who harm the community. “Keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching you received from us. He supports a strong work ethic, and reminds them, “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.’”
Ironically, the rule “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat” was enshrined into law by the Soviet Union in its 1936 Constitution, putting a direct Bible quotation in the legal foundation of an atheistic country.
The harsh tone of the chapter is tempered somewhat in verses 3:14-15, “Take special note of anyone who does not obey our instructions in this letter. Do not associate with them, in order that they may feel ashamed. Yet do not regard them as an enemy, but warn them as you would a fellow believer.”

Saturday meditation
Psalms 119:137-144
You are righteous, Lord, and your laws are right. The statutes you have laid down are righteous; they are fully trustworthy. My zeal wears me out, for my enemies ignore your words. Your promises have been thoroughly tested, and your servant loves them. Though I am lowly and despised, I do not forget your precepts. Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true. Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands give me delight. Your statutes are always righteous; give me understanding that I may live.
Prayer focus
May we not be worn out, but maintain our zeal to work and contribute to our community and world.
